Las Cuevas Beach - Trinidad

Image
I read that the name "Las Cuevas" is derived from the Spanish word for caves and that there are many caves on this beach. I didn't notice any caves but the road behind the beach is elevated and you do see the rock formations. I walked from one side of the beach to the other side of the beach and back and that was 4 km. I then walked up towards Fort Abercromby and then through the village and then back on the beach. Another 2 km. There is a school and health center and fishing depot. Around Fort Abercromby is a nice hiking trail. The sandy shore is wide with plenty area to setup beach chairs and picnic blankets. Parking is limited and the earlier you set out to get there the less traffic you should encounter. Pigeon Point Beach - Tobago

Image
I read on Caribbean Beat  that a time long ago the area was home to wild pigeons until it made way for a coconut estate and hence the name Pigeon Point. The walk from Milford Road along Pigeon Point Road past Bago bar at Cable Bay is relaxing. The jetty is said to be one of the most photographed in the world. The beach often makes top ten lists. It is a location for weddings and photography and water sports. You pay a nominal fee to enter which goes towards the upkeep of the facilities. I was staying Sou Sou Lands Tobago where my journey started. I had never been down that side walking and it was a welcome change of scenery. It was a beautiful morning with clear blue sky. You can continue on pass Little Rockly Bay towards Rockly Bay and Scarborough. Lot's of coconut trees and also close to Tobago Plantations. Read that this beach is Tobago's longest beach and that it is a spot for kite surfing on the windy western side. The eastern side is protected by a reef. Road to Little Rockly Bay Beautiful coconut trees Hampden River Quiet beach Little Rockly Bay Walked 8km in total that morning.

Maracas Beach - Trinidad

Image
These photos were taken in 2009 using a Casio point and shoot. I didn't have a fancy smartphone or DSLR at that time. Maracas beach or bay is located on the North coast of Trinidad. The drive to Maracas over the hills is calming and breezy with mountain vegetation and at times you can see the sea. Stop out at the famous Maracas lookout to take photos and indulge in the local preserves being sold. You cannot leave Maracas beach without eating one or more bake and shark and you will crave one when you get home so buy extras. If you are vegetarian like me then maybe try the bake with just the toppings and sauces. Chaguaramas Boardwalk

Image
Chaguaramas is located in Northwest Trinidad. There is one road in and out of Chaguaramas. The boardwalk was built a few years ago and the area is still being developed. Nice for walking and jogging and areas can be rented for weddings and other functions. I have childhood memories of making pelau (or other food) and packing our bags and taking the bus to Chaguaramas beach. This area was informally known as Indian Bay by some. Who remembers the Jolly Roger cruises? Their website : chaguaramas.com/things-to-do/boardwalk Persons strolling Boats Cotton candy vendor Boardwalk Kayaking Slippery Me relaxing
